To ensure a straight and even installation, you need to snap a straight line on the subfloor. Measure the width of the room and divide it by the width of the planks to figure out how many planks you will need. Adjust the straight line if you needed to avoid having very thin planks at the end of the room. Use a chalk line to mark a straight line on the subfloor parallel to the longest wall.
Lay the first row of LVP planks.
Stay from the left corner of the room and lay the first plank along the straight line, leaving a ¼-inch gap between the plank and the wall for expansion. Cut off the tongue of the plank of needed to fit against the wall. Join the next plank by inserting its tongue into the groove of the first plank and pressing down firmly. Repeat this process until you reach the end of the row, cutting the last plank to fit if necessary.
Lay the flooring rows of LVP planks.
To start the second row, use a leftover price from the first row that is at least 8 inches long. If you don’t have one, cut a new plank in half. This will create a staggered pattern that adds strength and visual appeal to the floor. Align the tongue of the plank with the groove of the first row and snap it into place. Continue laying planks in this way, making sure to stagger the joints by at least 6 inches.
Complete the LVP installation.
